Career and Job Prospects After PhD. in Biotechnology

JIIT

The PhD program is offered by the Department of Biotechnology at Jaypee Institute of Information and Technology NOIDA established in 2002. The institute is situated in an ambient study environment adjacent to New Delhi within the National Capital Region (NCR) and has easy access for students from all major cities of India and abroad.

The Department of Biotechnology is enriched with highly qualified, intellectual, specialized and energetic faculty members with adequate research facilities. The department organises international and national level conferences, seminars, workshops and guest lectures on regular basis in diverse fields of cutting age research, which enables students to keep themselves updated with current innovation in their field of research. The Biotechnology Department has well equipped laboratories and extramural research grants from premier national funding agencies of the Govt. of India such as the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Department of Science and Technology (DST), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of AYUSH to facilitate research in the core areas of Biotechnology.

The objective of the PhD in Biotechnology program is to produce independent researchers in various specialised fields of Biotechnology e.g. virology, immunology, pharmacology, medicine, genetics, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, stem cell biology, nanobiotechnology, drug delivery, diagnostics, bioremediation, agriculture, food biotechnology etc. Biotechnology Department at JIIT boasts of a Centre of Excellence on Biotechnology Solutions for Soil and Water Remediation and two research centres – Centre for emerging Diseases and Centre for Plant and Microbial Biotechnology. At JIIT, Institutional fellowship and teaching assistantship are provided to the Ph.D scholars, that not just helps them financially rather grooms them for a better researcher as well as teacher. The outcome of this is reflected in our PhD scholars presently engaged in teaching at Amity University, Noida, Galgotia University, Noida, LLOYD Institute of Management and Technology, Greater Noida, Noida International University (NIU), Noida, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Faridabad, Atmiya University, Rajkot. After completing PhD many have gone for postdoctoral research at reputed national and international Universities/Institutes like Dublin University, Ireland, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis IUPUI, Indianapolis, International centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Trieste, Italy, German Cancer Reseach Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg, Germany, Institutes for stem cell science and regenerative medicine (INSTEM), Bangalore and many more. In addition to this, students have made their career in industries like Piramal Healthcare, Abbott, Spotsense etc. The state-of-art research facilities at JIIT is recognised nationally and students from different states opt for postdoctoral work at JIIT, Noida.  JIIT having Jaypee business School on campus, that is among top B schools in Delhi NCR region, facilitates interdisciplinary research with market analysis and positioning of the research output leading to bioentrepreneurs and startups.
